Job Title & Company: Design Engineer, Motor Control Centers at Van Meter Inc.

Major Job/Position Responsibilities: I work with engineering firms and plant engineers to design an Allen-Bradley Motor Control Center to suit their needs. My job responsibilities include understanding the customer's needs, drafting a solution to what their project requires, and (hopefully) sell the equipment to them! I do a mix of technical aspects such as understanding what motors they need to control, which of our products best suit their needs, along with a business/sales aspect by quoting and ordering the equipment that we have settled on.

What do you like most about your job/position? My favorite part of my job is that I get to collaborate with great people to achieve a solution for someone's needs. I also really enjoy working with some large companies and getting to see some of the behind-the-scenes manufacturing of several popular products most of us use daily.

What advice would you give to current students at BVU? I would recommend that current students at BVU truly enjoy their time on campus and around peers. Every single one of my memories from BV have something to do with friends that I made while on campus. I still get to go and see many of the people I met regularly. What I find most important for BVU students is to go out and meet people in the field that you are considering. Having connections and contacts within the field may just land you a great job you had no idea existed! Do not be afraid to go into your professors or advisors' office. Each time I went into one, I came out with a clearer mind and a better plan for the future.
