Young Alum of the Month: Tyler Brunner
October 2025
Name: Tyler Brunner
Hometown: Arcadia, Iowa
Major(s) and Graduation Date: Digital Media, December 2019.
Favorite BVU Class: My Digital Media Capstone, because I was able to explore my newfound interest in podcasting and utilize all the technical and journalistic skills I had learned up until that point.
Job Title & Company: Video Specialist at Donovan Group.
Major Job/Position Responsibilities: Primarily, I am responsible for creating visually stunning videos for public school districts nationwide, utilizing applications such as Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro while showcasing each school's unique brand identity throughout each project. I also travel to school districts for more detailed video projects where I interview students, staff, community members, and school district leaders, gather B-roll shots, and gain a deeper understanding of the messaging the district wants their video to highlight. These projects can include videos on bond referendums, district-wide branding, community highlights, and even infographic videos called kinetic typography.
What do you like most about your job/position? I truly appreciate the creative freedom I’ve been given since joining the Donovan Group in October 2024. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to grow my skills in video creation through a variety of different projects for school districts nationwide. I also have a fantastic video team that’s willing to lend a helping hand if I feel stuck creatively. Another aspect I admire about Donovan Group is its entrepreneurial spirit. Everyone brings something special to the table, and our culture celebrates and embraces that concept. There are truly no limits to what we can do. Currently, one of our video team members is selling and marketing our video services to smaller school districts in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area. Just because we have a title doesn’t mean that’s where our expertise and knowledge end.
What advice would you give to current students at BVU? Don’t be afraid to try something new. I spent the majority of my early media career in radio broadcasting, and then, in 2022, I was pulled back into the world of video editing and creation. It sparked a passion in me that I knew I wanted to pursue further. I went from radio broadcasting to marketing, and now, my career has blossomed as a Video Specialist. No matter your field of study, you aren’t bound to the parameters of your degree post-graduation. I’ve seen psychology majors become leaders in Digital Media and political science majors pursue opportunities in classroom technology and event coordination. All of these individuals are stepping into career fields with little to no experience and thriving. All this to say, try new things, learning something new every day, take leaps of faith, and step into a new stage of life with confidence, because what if it all works out?
