Kyle Drey Memorial Golf Outing

July 25, 2020

Forty-two teams made up of 168 golfers reported to Buena Vista University Golf Course at Lake Creek for the Third Annual Kyle Drey Memorial Golf Outing on August 11. The tournament is held in memory of Drey, a BVU booster and Storm Lake St. Mary’s basketball coach who died on June 13, 2018.

The 2020 event, which featured more than 200 guests from all around the Midwest, raised in excess of $14,000 earmarked for the college funds for the daughters of Kyle and Jacquie Drey ’97: Jordan Haluska, Dani Drey, and Keely Drey.

“We had a great day with golf, prizes, food, and in sharing memories of Kyle,” says Adam Friedrichsen ’09, the event organizer. “Donations came in from as far away as the East Coast. It is evident how much Kyle meant to this community.”

Friedrichsen also lauded the efforts of Joe Powell, the men’s golf coach at BVU who also serves as general manager at BVU Golf Course at Lake Creek.

“Joe and everyone at BVU Lake Creek have been outstanding to work with on the tournament for Kyle,” Friedrichsen says. “Joe and his staff have answered our every need.”

Participants pictured in the photos include Thomas Wisecup '18, Grant Wright '18, Adam Juhl '18, Nick Clark '17, Sam Lipps '16, Jarrod Juhl '16, Dustin Schulz '09, Lindsey Meyer '07, Randy Bissen '05, Doug Bissen '12, and Brad Blum '12.

The 2021 event is tabbed for July 24, a special day for the Fourth Annual Kyle Drey Memorial Golf Outing. Says Friedrichsen: “It’ll be a great day; it falls on Kyle’s birthday.”
